Leaders Engaged in Arboreal Futures (LEAF)
Aug. 11-14, 2025
About the program
The Leaders Engaged in Arboreal Futures (LEAF) Program is a 4-day summer experience for youth ages 14–18 that brings together urban forestry, environmental justice, and creative community action.
LEAF is all about trees—but not just the science of tree identification or biology (although you’ll learn that too!). This program focuses on how trees exist within both natural and built environments, how they can help us fight for climate and environmental justice, and how even trees are part of the complicated realities of our changing world (including their own emissions and impacts on air quality).
Participants will learn how to better care for their communities—through tree stewardship, youth-led projects, advocacy, and creative storytelling. Whether it’s planting, pruning, mapping, or art-making, LEAF is a place for youth to explore how trees can be tools for change, healing and connection.
Capstone Project: Leadership Beyond the Program
Each participant will create a capstone project that advocates for urban forestry, climate justice, or healthier communities. Projects might include:
- Starting a mini tree-care campaign in your neighborhood
- Creating an art project that tells the story of trees and justice
- Designing a social media toolkit or community zine
- Organizing a local event, mural, or tree walk
The Capstone doesn’t have to be finished during the camp! After LEAF ends, participants will receive continued support and mentorship to help them complete their project by September 29, 2025. We’re here to help you make real change in your community.
