Convene and mobilize parks and natural resource leaders throughout the region. Advocate together for investment in parks, trails, nature and equitable access to nature.
1. Mobilize the coalition to advocate for investment in parks, trails and greenspaces. This includes equitable access to nature and protection of current assets.
The Intertwine Alliance, through a diverse and active policy committee, will continue to prioritize advocacy for investment in parks, trails and greenspaces. We will continue to develop structures and systems that enable us to look upstream, be proactive in developing and advocating for solutions, and effectively mobilizing coalition partners to action.
Many of our historical regional champions for nature are no longer serving as elected officials. This year we will begin developing a new cohort of elected officials who advocate for the protection of and equitable access to nature.
Goals include:
- Keep the coalition informed, educated and moving forward with an appropriate level of communications. This will include formalizing and promoting an Intertwine Alliance policy agenda each year.
Create and implement a strategy for engaging elected officials, tracking outreach and success.
Conduct coalition-wide communication and mobilize partners in support of local or regional ballot measures or other potential investments in nature.
Add at least two new members to The Intertwine Alliance policy committee, increasing representation of underserved communities and a fuller geographical representation of our region.
2. Continue convening, supporting and equipping the parks leadership of the region through the regional parks leaders meetings.
The meetings are key for sharing information, building a regional identity, and identifying priorities, projects and resources.
Goals include:
- Build community, and identify and fill gaps in training/resource needs. Tour each other's sites, properties and projects.
Help build and maintain a set of data points around the need for investment in local parks, trails and natural areas that can be refined and leveraged to tell a story of regional urgency and impact.
Use our Outside Voice blog and other communications channels to broadcast collaborative efforts, opportunities and successes.
3. Develop a quarterly convening of regional urban forestry leaders.
In order to weave the systems change work of Connecting Canopies more centrally into coalition priorities, we are seeking funding to support a new series of quarterly convenings of regional urban forestry leaders.
