Reactivate the coalition in support of the regional trails system

Over the years, The Intertwine Alliance’s role in advancing the regional trails system has dwindled, leaving a gap. This year, we will embark on a series of strategic actions to begin filling the role of an independent, non-government “friends” group for Portland’s regional trails system, including Southwest Washington. The Alliance will work in partnership with government agencies and trails advocates, including transportation justice advocates, to increase investment in and public support of the regional trails system.
Trails are an important piece of the regional climate justice and resilience puzzle. They are a key piece of the transportation equity puzzle. They are important as cooling corridors, and much more. The Intertwine Alliance will center trails in our advocacy for these issues.
Goals include:
Create a regional trails landing page on theintertwine.org to promote the entire Intertwine trails system, including Southwest Washington, and to enumerate the primary benefits of regional trails for recreation, transportation justice, climate justice and resilience, and more.
Create a regional trails Slack channel (or other discussion forum) hosted by The Intertwine Alliance.
Launch and facilitate quarterly convenings of core Portland region trail advocates to identify policy and advocacy needs. The purpose is to convene experts to share information, collaborate, and achieve bigger impact through coordinated advocacy and fundraising. The goal is to be a supplementary, action-focused working group that liases with the statewide Oregon Trails Coalition and Metro's quarterly trails forums.
Partner with Oregon Trails Coalition to deliver a reimagined and updated biannual policymakers ride.
Serve as the primary Portland-region partner in Oregon Trails Coalition’s biennial “Trails Day” and bipartisan Oregon Trails caucus.
