Interested in wildlife? Love to snowshoe? The Wolverine Tracking Project is looking for volunteers to help carry out snow tracking surveys for rare carnivores on the Mt Hood National Forest.

Learn animal tracking skills, enjoy group trips in a winter wonderland, and help increase knowledge of rare wildlife on Mt Hood.

Trainings take place in November. A two-part training is required, to give you a thorough introduction to animal tracking (identifying footprints in the snow), as well as information about the survey process. There are 5 different dates to choose from.

Survey trips start in the beginning of December and go until the end of March, with at least one trip going out most weekends. Surveys are done on snowshoes, and are lead by two experienced volunteer trip leaders. We ask that you help on at least 2-3 trips.

In order to cover the cost of the training, we need to charge a small fee of $65. This fee includes the 2 training sessions, a winter's worth of tracking, and also includes a year of membership with Cascadia Wild, which gives you discounts on all our classes. Animal tracking is a valuable skill to study wildlife in a non-invasive manner, and we would like to give people the skills to use it effectively.

Cascadia Wild teaches animal tracking, wild plant foraging, and wilderness survival. We combine modern ecology with the ancient practices of living with nature, to help people develop healthier relationships with the natural environment and with their community.
