Local Refuges Get “Wild in the City”

What: Open House to showcase local National Wildlife Refuges

Where: Cascade Park Library Community Room: 600 NE 136th Ave Vancouver, WA 98684

When: March 4th 10:30 to 3:00; Short presentations at 12 and 2.

Cost: Free

National Wildlife Refuges are community assets offering recreational and learning opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. The community is invited to come learn about their local National Wildlife Refuges in the Portland/Vancouver Metro area. As close as 20 minutes north or east of downtown Vancouver, these public lands offer accessible trails, unique wildlife observation opportunities, ways to learn about and experience local Native American culture, and fun simple ways to volunteer and make a difference in the community.

Staff and volunteers will engage people of all ages in learning about local wildlife, recreational opportunities, and ongoing conservation projects. Volunteer projects in habitat restoration, environmental and cultural education, and other opportunities to help engage the public in outdoor recreation will also be showcased.

Short presentations from staff showcasing these opportunities will be held at 12 and 2. There will be hands-on activities for all ages and refreshments will be provided. Come to color a reusable bag celebrating birds and get your picture taken in a bird costume! Other activities to be added.

This event is sponsored by the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Complex (Ridgefield, Steigerwald Lake, Franz Lake and Pierce NWRs) and its partners, the Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge and the Columbia Gorge Refuge Stewards.
