he Sauvie Island Center’s 9th Annual Barn Dance & Barbecue is scheduled for Saturday, July 29th on the Sauvie Island Organics farm and the grounds of Metro’s Howell Territorial Park. The family-friendly event, presented by Whole Foods Market, is a benefit for the Sauvie Island Center whose mission is to educate local children about food, farming and the land. Doors open at 4:00 pm. Activities include a scavenger hunt, tours of the award-winning Sauvie Island Organics farm, live music and a square dance. Dinner, catered by Artemis Foods with products from Tails & Trotters and Organic Valley will be served at 6 PM. The square dance begins at 7 pm. Widmer Brothers Brewing beer and Lady Hill wines will also be available for purchase. The Silent Auction, hosted by Portland Nursery, will feature gift certificates from some of Portland’s favorite restaurants as well as art, outdoor gear, event tickets and premium wines.
