We are looking for the next Community Science superstars for the Johnson Creek Watershed Council’s Beaver Surveys!
For one survey day, your team of 2-3 volunteers will walk a 1-mile long reach of the creek to map and collect data on beaver dams and other signs of beaver activity. How to get involved:
Come to the virtual and outdoor trainings on August 13th (both are required).
Virtual training over Zoom from 10am-11am.
Outdoor training at Tideman Johnson City Park 12pm-2pm. SE 37th Avenue and Tenino Street, Portland, OR 97202.
Sign-up for one, three hour survey on one of four weekends/days, August 27th/28th, August 31st, Septmeber 3rd/4th, or September 10th/11th.
No experience necessary!
These surveys are not suitable for children under 16 years old.
Volunteers should anticipate walking for one mile over rough/uneven terrain on streambanks and/or in the water while in warm to hot weather conditions.
For these surveys, we will be providing waders and other safety equipment. We will be using a web-based and mobile platform called Anecdata to collect the beaver data! If you have a smartphone, please download the app and create an account. There will also be a paper form option.
