Volunteer dragonfly surveyors work in small teams to collect data on dragonflies & damselflies in the Johnson Creek watershed. The surveys help JCWC document the distribution of these species to inform JCWC restoration decisions and practices. Odonates (dragonflies and damselflies) are not only beautiful to look at- they are important indicator species in aquatic areas. Volunteers sign up for up to four surveys (one per month) from June through September. Surveys take approximately two hours, not including travel time. Entomologist extraordinaire Celeste Searles Mazzacano from CASM Environmental will train volunteers in survey protocol and identification skills, and JCWC staff, Adrienne, will cover volunteer protocol.
