Salmon Surveyor Orientation: Tuesday October 15th 6:00-8:00 pm

Free. Want to learn how to be a scientist for a day? Come walk through the streams in your watershed surveying salmon. No experience required but registration and orientation are necessary. Training will be provided by biologists from Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Johnson Creek Watershed Council staff.

Who: Anyone over the age of 16! Individuals between 16 & 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Some volunteer surveyors will walk directly in the stream during winter flows, which can be difficult. Volunteers must be sure-footed, and have full mobility to participate in this activity.

When: Mandatory orientation on Tuesday, October 15th from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm

-2 surveys following orientation: Dates vary and schedule is distributed with survey locations after orientation. Surveys take 2-3 hours but can be done on your own schedule.

Where: 4033 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland, OR 97202 (All-Saints Episcopal Church Parish Hall)

Why: JCWC documents the distribution of salmon species and spawning activity throughout the watershed to inform restoration efforts and to share with our scientific partner organizations.

Salmon are integral to the Pacific Northwest and to Johnson Creek. These amazing fish migrate from their natal streams, to the ocean, and back again to spawn. They also play important roles in the cultures and histories of Native Nations to this area.

Register: Free event, registration required to attend orientation, please register here
