Each year since 1986, the City of Portland has celebrated its official city bird, the great blue heron -- along with the other amazing flora and fauna of our metro region -- with a slew of paddles, lectures, wildlife watching and other public activities. These free events throughout the city are known as Great Blue Heron Week.
This year's theme is "Celebrating Green Infrastructure." The fun kicks off with Portland City Council's proclamation of Great Blue Heron Week on Wednesday, May 30, and runs through the Ross Island Paddle on Sunday, June 10.
