Concerned about the plight of bees? The best thing you can do to help, is to provide habitat to sustain them. Parking strips are visible and tend to be smaller than yards, so can provide a less intimidating canvass. Even aggressive plants are hemmed in by sidewalks and roadways, and require little upkeep once the planting is complete.
Join Bee Thinking and Sherrie Pelsma of Pollinator Parkways for a DIY tutorial on how to create your own pollinator habitat out of a parking strip.
This event is free to attend with a raffle at the door. All proceeds will go to Pollinator Parkways, and Sherrie will visit the winner's house to design their parking strip for them.
About the Speaker: Montavilla Neighborhood local, Sherrie Pelsma, began Pollinator Parkways in an effort to provide native bees and other pollinators with native, pesticide-free habitat. Sherrie has collaborated with experts and neighbors to assemble an easy to follow manual for locals and laymen to begin their own pollinator habitats. The “Flip the Strip” campaign has successfully converted 6,155 square feet of parking strips into pollinator habitat.
