Friends of Trees Crew Leaders are trained volunteer leads who are responsible for leading small groups of volunteers during our Saturday planting events.
Crew Leaders demonstrate how to plant trees properly while maintaining a fun, safe, and educational environment at our planting events. This is a dynamic and social leadership role best suited for people wanting to learn more about tree health, get their hands dirty outdoors, and gain or improve their group leadership skills. As a Crew Leader, you have the opportunity to make a positive impact on our natural environment and the communities we work with!
NEIGHBORHOOD TREE PLANTING CREW LEADERS work to bring the benefits of urban trees to low-canopy neighborhoods by planting street and yard trees throughout urban neighborhoods in Portland, Beaverton, Gresham, Vancouver, Clark County, Oregon City, Eugene & Springfield. Crew Leaders pair up to lead a crew of seven or eight people to load about 10 trees in a pick-up truck and plant them at a handful of homes throughout the neighborhoods. Trees are usually balled & burlap or container stock, 6-7ft tall, and weigh about 50-60lbs at the time of planting. Plantings are generally followed by a volunteer-prepared hot lunch.
To be a Crew Leader, we ask that you attend a 7hr training (classroom and field training) and commit to four or more planting events Nov - April. You'll also get a free Tree Team t-shirt, awesome food, and lots of tree knowledge! Space is limited at each of these events, so register early to hold your spot!
If this sounds like a great gig to you, please register for this training below!
Thanks for your interest in being a leader for community tree-planting -- we look forward to working with you!
