Our reliance on global markets has weakened our ability to provide the things we need from the local landscape, for ourselves and our families. We have forgotten how to live in the place where we exist. This disconnection from nature—from our food, clothing, resources, and neighbors—is palpable. What we have gained in worldly complexity, we have lost in regional resilience.
Rewild Portland is here to change that.
Our mission is to create cultural and environmental resilience by offering educational workshops and programs on earth-based arts, traditions, and technologies. We offer a variety of programs, including free monthly classes, community-building events, seasonal children's camps, and adult workshops that integrate the arts of ancestral technology with environmental education and ecological restoration. We connect people to place and nature through ancient hand crafts—basket weaving, pottery, bow and arrow making, edible wild plants, and more.
On Friday, April 13, we will host our annual silent auction to raise funds to continue our programming in 2018–19. This fundraiser provides a large portion of our annual operating expenses, helping us to continue running our monthly Free Skills Series, sponsored by Portland Parks and Recreation. During the event there will be demonstrations of a few ancestral skills such as felt making, basket weaving, and simple stone tool making.
6 pm–9:30 pm, Silent Auction (auction closes at 8:30 pm, winners must be present)
Our silent auction is the highlight of the night. People walk away with amazing deals on everything from handmade tools to local field guides, native plants, theater tickets, and artisan baskets—all while supporting Rewild Portland.
7 pm–8 pm, Guest Speaker
Earth builder, educator, and activist Aaron Johnson will give a talk titled “Getting Close to Blackness: Diversifying the Rewilding Community.” Q&A to follow.
