Learn how to make proper pruning cuts and identify and correct structural defects in young trees, increasing tree health and lifespan while sharply reducing the possible need for future costly maintenance.
In recent years, the City of Vancouver has planted publicly-owned trees along NE 39th Street between 122nd and 137th Avenues, bordering the Image and North Image neighborhoods. Led by Urban Forestry staff, volunteers will prune these young trees and gain insight on techniques to minimize potential hazards from improperly-maintained trees, such as raising branches for roadway and sidewalk clearance and correcting co-dominant stems.
Meet at NE 39th St and 129th Ave. Gloves, breakfast refreshments, and tools provided - volunteers are welcome to also bring a personal pair of hand-held bypass pruners. All pruning cuts will be made without needing to climb the tree or use a ladder.
Apply what you learn to your home's street or yard trees while coming together as neighbors to beautify a well-traveled community corridor.
