A cypher is an informal gathering of rappers in a circle, improvising together. Come learn about the art of the MC, utilizing hip-hop to engage each other—and particularly youth—in self-expression within a supportive community.
Special guests Cypher CURE (cyphercure.org), a local nonprofit and youth mentoring organization, will talk about the cypher, its role in community, and their organization's efforts "to awaken genius in rhythm with Mother Earth and hip-hop." Join in or observe as Cypher CURE demonstrates the art and community-building power of the cypher.
Please note that this class will take place outdoors. Dress in layers to keep warm and dry!
The Free Skills Series is a family-friendly class and networking event that happens monthly, usually (but not always) occurring on the last Saturday of the month. It is a place to meet new people and hang out with old friends while learning skills that connect us with humanity’s ancestral past and more local and sustainable future.
